A container of Duckweed culture.
Duckweed is an aquatic, freshwater plant that floats on the surface of the water.
It has a very simple structure, consisting of a small thallus and thin rootlets.
Duckweed is an efficient absorber of a number of chemicals, including ammonia, nitrate, phosphorous, potassium, magnesium, calcium, sodium, chlorine, boron and iron.
This makes it a nutritious food for fish and effective at treatment of waste water.
While it can flower, duckweed reproduces primarily by asexual budding, which combined with its notable ability to absorb nutrients make it able to reproduce very rapidly.
