Male gorillas are the largest of the world primates, reaching heights of 1.8m (when standing erect) and weights up to 180kg.
Enormously strong, they have broad shoulders, thick muscular biceps, and forearms longer than their upper arms, with an arm span of over 2.5m.
Their short broad thumbs and big toes are opposable and allow both the hands and feet to be used for grasping.
Gorillas are primarily terrestrial, but they are excellent climbers.
Gorillas have large heads with prominent brow ridges, a prognathic face, forward-facing wide-set eyes, very small ears and a wide flat nose with broadly flared nostrils.
Like fingerprints, their nose prints are unique.
Adult gorillas have 32 teeth, as do humans and the other apes.
They are almost strictly vegetarian with the exception of an occasional meal of termites or ants.
